Select Board denies water-sewer abatement request unanimously.

Select Board · Meeting of February 19, 2026

RUTLAND — Select Board unanimously denies water-sewer abatement request. A resident sought relief from $9,900 in charges after a running toilet caused high meter readings; the DPW Director recommended denial, noting water accurately ran through the meter and into the sewer system, and the Board declined to set a precedent despite expressing sympathy. In joint budget talks, Town Administrator Heather Butler advised against funding a new Planning Board Administrative Assistant position, recommending instead that stormwater permit applications be handled by existing DPW staff through the stormwater enterprise account.

The Finance Committee's annual dues budget was increased from $200 to $210 for inflation, while the Reserve Fund was held at $25,000.
