Rutland OKs Four-Way Stop on Route 68
Select Board · Meeting of August 31, 2026
Rutland Select Board approves four-way stop for crash-prone Route 68 intersection. The board voted unanimously to adopt a MassDOT-recommended conversion of the Route 68 and Wachusett Street intersection to an all-way stop for a minimum two-year trial, after crash data showed five wrecks in 2022, six in 2023 and five in 2024. Acting Town Administrator Heather told the board the town is projecting a roughly $900,000 budget deficit for fiscal year 2028, on top of $2.6 million already cut from the fiscal 2027 budget, and asked department heads to prepare both "level service" and "restorative" budget options by mid-October.
The board also called Rutland's fall special town meeting for November 19 at Glenwood School and voted to send Chair Sheila Dibb's formal letter to the state Department of Conservation and Recreation seeking a pause on any demolition of the Rutland prison camp structures.
