Select Board Backs Rutland Marketplace's New License
Select Board · Meeting of September 14, 2026
Rutland Select Board backs Rutland Marketplace's shift to a year-round liquor license. The board voted unanimously to affirm support for revised House Bill 5659 language converting the market's seasonal all-alcohol off-premises license to an annual one, requiring it to surrender its existing wine-and-malt license. Deputy Fire Chief Quinn presented a nearly 100-page MRI consulting study laying out five regionalization options with Oakham and Barre, from a home-rule fire district to a shared chief, warning "I'm not 100 percent confident" current staffing can keep pace with rising call volumes.
The board also heard that the town clerk search has narrowed nine applicants to two finalists, set for September 28 interviews, and weighed a Zoning Board of Appeals request to review fees — $500 for commercial special permits, $300 residential — after losing its administrative clerk. Members also voted to accept Matthew Lavoie's resignation from the ADA Commission and approved a one-day liquor license for Dale Perkins' Mesa Farm event.
