Rutland Select Board seats inaugural ADA Commission, approves two new committee charges
Select Board · Meeting of July 20, 2026
Rutland Select Board seats inaugural nine-member ADA Commission and approves two new committee charges. The board voted unanimously Monday to seat eight resident members plus Town Administrator Heather as the appointed town official on the new Americans with Disabilities Act Commission, which is authorized under MGL Chapter 40 for up to 13 members and retains five open seats. The board also approved charges for a Rutland Communications Advisory Committee and a permanent Town Building Committee, both with five members, and reaffirmed its existing code of conduct for all appointed boards.
A lengthy discussion of the canceled July 4th celebration produced no formal vote but drew a sharp statement from Member Harry Sechman — "we didn't do our job" — and a pointed correction from the town administrator, who said the layoff of 17 town employees, not the loss of fireworks, was "the worst thing that happened." The board set a loose September target to reconstitute the July 4th Committee and conduct a public survey on the failed budget override.
