Select Board approves tiered override proposal of $3.1M, $4.2M, $5.4M.

Select Board · Meeting of January 21, 2026

RUTLAND — Select Board unanimously votes to advance tiered override with three proposed amounts. Town Administrator Heather Butler presented three scenarios--$3.1 million, $4.2 million, and $5.4 million--with the smallest sum funding the town for one year and the larger amounts extending service stability. Without override passage, the Council on Aging would reduce to 32 hours per week with elimination of the Outreach Coordinator position; the Library would face identical hour reductions and risk loss of state certification; and Public Safety would absorb a 25 percent staff reduction, increasing emergency response times.

The board heard FY2027 departmental budgets from the Treasurer/Collector, Assessor, and Town Accountant before voting unanimously to move forward with the tiered override for placement on the May ballot.
