Finance Committee approves tiered override framework for May ballot

RUTLAND — Finance Committee and Select Board jointly approved a tiered override of $3.1 million, $4.2 million, and $5.4 million for the May ballot. Town Administrator Heather Butler presented the framework, warning that failure to pass an override would force significant service reductions: the Council on Aging would close, Library hours would drop to 32 per week risking state certification, Public Safety would cut staff by 25 percent, and Town Hall would operate two days weekly. Treasurer/Collector Nick George reported a nine percent increase in Worcester Regional Retirement System assessments projected through FY2036 and noted Vadar software costs are being moved to IT.
The Select Board directed the Town Clerk to transmit ballot language immediately.
