Select Board approves FY27 budget framework pending school assessment decision
Select Board · Meeting of March 26, 2026
RUTLAND — Select Board and Finance Committee jointly approved the FY2027 budget framework on March 26, pending the Wachusett Regional School District's School Committee vote on a new health insurance agreement. Town Accountant Heather Butler presented revisions affecting both the override and reduced-budget versions, including Select Board salary increases to $3,000 per member and town audit costs rising to $30,000. The WRSD assessment could drop by approximately $425,000 to $18.38 million if the health plan passes; the district cautioned against relying on this one-time savings in future budgets.
The board signaled consensus to request a $2.5 million override for FY27, with subsequent-year requests designed to reach a $5.1 million threshold by FY29.
