Wachusett Regional School District budget draws $500K potential health plan savings
Select Board · Meeting of March 19, 2026
RUTLAND — Wachusett Regional School District budget faces 7.5 percent increase to Rutland's assessment. Superintendent Dr. James Reilly presented an FY2027 budget with a 4.44 percent overall increase, noting the district is in "hold harmless" for the third year running due to declining enrollment.
The district plans to deploy $1 million in Excess & Deficiency funds to ease town assessments and will again offer school choice, which generated $100,000 last fiscal year. A newly negotiated health plan transition, pending final School Committee approval following legal review, could reduce Rutland's assessment by approximately $500,000--though Dr. Reilly stressed it represents a one-time savings with no anticipated significant reductions in future years.
