Select Board votes to fight DCR prison camp plan
Select Board · Meeting of August 17, 2026
Rutland's Select Board launched an emergency campaign to stop state plans to cut down the Rutland Prison Camp's historic cell block walls. Acting on same-day notice from DCR staffer Dan Clark, the board and the Historical Commission each voted unanimously to send letters to Gov. Healey, Lt.
Gov. Driscoll, Rural Affairs Director Anne Gobi and area legislators, plus a reverse-911 call and a legal-cost inquiry to town counsel KP Law. "They're not asking, they're telling," commission members said of DCR's notice.
Separately, two Brintnal Drive residents brought a 50-signature petition seeking a reduced speed limit on their road, citing a hit-and-run crash and road widening that is damaging stone walls. The board also moved the Town Administrator's performance review to a five-point rating scale and appointed Police Chief Nick Monaco Acting Town Administrator for Sept. 7-23.
