Rutland Select Board closes Special Town Meeting warrant, advancing three articles. The Board unanimously placed a revised Wachusett Regional School District assessment reduced by approximately $135,000 after Rutland and Paxton voters rejected the original budget, along with a Home Rule Petition article for an all-beverages liquor license at Rutland Marketplace and a citizen petition regarding Fire, Police, and Department of Public Works funding. School Committee Chair Linda Woodland requested $524,161 in Free Cash to cover the shortfall; Finance Committee Chair Darren Ross expressed frustration that the town is losing 19 employees while the district made shallower cuts.
The Board declined a separate Fire Department proposal to establish an ambulance enterprise fund and rejected a measure to appropriate $296,403.50 to delay layoffs, with town fiscal officers formally opposing the latter.
