Rutland board previews packed fall warrant, debates free cash. The Select Board and Finance Committee spent over two hours reviewing roughly 25 draft articles for the November Special Town Meeting, including a new ambulance-revenue reserve account that would hold back $165,000 to gradually reduce the fire department's reliance on ambulance receipts, and an enterprise fund meant to launch a regional curbside trash program with Princeton and Hubbardston after 25 years of discussion. Select Board member Harry Sechman pressed for specifics on how residents could opt out of a new hauler, asking "what's the parameters for this thing?" Officials also debated tapping roughly $300,000 in anticipated free cash for street lights and police and fire overtime, with one board member warning, "it's our fiscal responsibility to say I'm sorry, the voters said no." Both bodies voted unanimously to enter executive session on a tax-title property matter.
