Library Closes for a Week, Trims Hours Amid Budget Restrictions
RUTLAND — The Rutland Free Public Library will close entirely for the week of August 9 through 15 after already moving to a reduced operating schedule on July 1, both changes tied to budget restrictions, according to the library's website.
TOWN HALL Town Hall has posted notice of a Rutland Community Electricity public information meeting set for August 19, giving residents a chance to learn more about the municipal electricity aggregation program. Separately, the town flagged a "Summer Send Off" event planned for September 5, though further details were not yet posted.
COMMUNITY & ARTS The Rutland Free Public Library, at 280 Main St., is now operating on a trimmed schedule adopted July 1 because of budget restrictions: Tuesday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday noon to 8 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (the library remains closed Saturdays between Memorial Day and Labor Day). On top of the shorter weekly hours, the library will shut down completely for the week of August 9 through 15. Library Director Kerry Remington heads the library, which also offers museum passes, meeting rooms and a Commonwealth Catalog for residents to borrow beyond Rutland's own collection.
COMING UP The Board of Assessors and the Planning Board both meet Tuesday, August 11, with the Planning Board's Bylaw Subcommittee following Wednesday, August 12, according to the town's published meeting calendar.
