Rutland Historical Commission approves State Registry application for Prison Camp. The commission voted unanimously to submit the MACRIS inventory application to the Massachusetts Historical Commission upon completion and designated member Lynn Turcotte as its representative in discussions with the District Attorney's office regarding prosecution of vandals, seeking full restitution. Police Chief Nick Monaco told the commission he sees no public safety concern at the site and recommended murals, anti-graffiti paint, signage, and cameras as preservation tools.
The commission is preparing a counter-proposal to the Department of Conservation and Resources to save the Prison Camp structure and will finalize it at the March 10 meeting.
