Finance Committee reviews charter language on budget timeline.

Finance Committee · Meeting of February 25, 2026

RUTLAND — Finance Committee challenges charter deadline for budget recommendations. Members Carol Benoit, Tom Ruchala, Ted Purcell, Darren Ross, and Lynn Wiinikka met jointly with the Charter Committee to review Section 7-2, Budget and Budget Process, of the draft charter, objecting to a requirement that the Finance Committee return recommendations "by the first Monday in March." The committee argued the deadline is too rigid because the Wachusett School District budget is not approved until early March, leaving insufficient time to incorporate school figures into the town budget. Finance Committee members recommended charter language be rewritten to be more generic and accommodating of external approval timelines.
