Finance Committee backs WRSD budget cuts and approves capital requests.

Finance Committee · Meeting of April 30, 2026

RUTLAND — Finance Committee approves WRSD budget cut strategy ahead of town meeting. The panel voted unanimously to recommend a $660,058 reduction to the Western Massachusetts Regional School District discretionary fund, eliminating the need for Free Cash to balance the FY27 budget should an override fail. Committee members Tom Ruchala, Lynn Wiinikka, Ted Purcell, Darren Ross, and Ludwig Haber also voted unanimously to recommend favorable action on Article 18, which includes borrowing for town pool repairs on a 50-50 cost-share basis, and voted 4-1 on capital requests.

The Committee scheduled a 5:15 p.m. pre-meeting with the Select Board before Annual Town Meeting to align on the WRSD amendment plan.
