Finance Committee backs $100,000 cut to school discretionary spending.

Finance Committee · Meeting of April 23, 2026

RUTLAND — Finance Committee backs $100,000 school discretionary budget cut if override fails. The Committee unanimously authorized the reduction to the Wachusett Regional School District's discretionary spending and directed member Darren Ross to work with Town Counsel on the motion language for Town Meeting floor. The Committee also voted unanimously to take no action on Article 21, a warrant item involving re-appropriation of $11,975 for Heights property maintenance, after RDIC Chair Tim Nahrwold requested the original special article remain intact.

Town Administrator Heather Butler outlined a plan to cover the $229,360 snow and ice deficit through inter-departmental transfers and $49,000 in Free Cash, pending review of pending state legislation that could yield $214,000 in snow and ice reimbursement.
