Finance panel recommends no action on Rutland Heights fund shift
Finance Committee · Meeting of April 23, 2026
Rutland Finance Committee tables library funding, backs override cut language. The committee voted 4-1 to recommend no action on a warrant article that would have repurposed $11,975 in leftover Rutland Heights funds for landscaping, after RDIC Chairman Tim said the commission needs the money for legal and survey work tied to a pending property sale. Members failed 2-3 to recommend a $57,000 library flooring request, asking trustees for a prioritized cost estimate before their May 7 meeting; a contractor had pegged separate exterior repairs at $150,000 to $250,000.
The board unanimously authorized Chair Darren Ross to finalize, with town counsel, language cutting $100,000 from discretionary spending tied to the town's Proposition 2½ override. Town Administrator Heather said $180,000 in health insurance and highway salary savings will cut the snow and ice deficit's free cash need to under $50,000.
