Finance Committee approves reserve fund transfer for town accountant deficit.

RUTLAND — Finance Committee approves reserve fund transfer for town accountant deficit. The committee voted 5-1 (with one abstention) to move $7,555.12 from reserves to cover a salary shortfall created when the former accountant depleted nearly $11,000 from the account through a vacation payout upon retirement. Meeting jointly with the Select Board to review the FY27 budget, the committee pushed back against the elimination of departmental VADAR licenses and a purchase order system, with Administrator Heather Butler agreeing to revisit the decision.
The town's health insurance premium climbed 18.9 percent while local receipts projections fell to $3.7 million. The Wachusett District assessment stands at $18.8 million, with potential savings of $425,000 if unions approve a proposed health insurance change.
