Finance Committee and Select Board approve ballot override language amid school assessment uncertainty.
Finance Committee · Meeting of April 6, 2026
Rutland Finance and Select Boards approve three-year override ballot language totaling $5.2 million despite uncertainty over a $425,000 school assessment reduction. Town Administrator Heather Butler reported that Western Regional School District could not finalize its vote before the town's printer deadline, forcing the boards to proceed with original override amounts of $3 million for FY2027, $1.2 million for FY2028, and $1 million for FY2029. Finance Committee member Darren Ross objected to the decision not to tie school funding to the override question, citing concern that town departments would face cuts while schools remain fully funded if voters reject the measure.
The boards will meet April 9 to review the Town Meeting warrant.
