Rutland panel votes 5-0 to pursue RFP for Heights land

Other Committee · Meeting of April 9, 2026

Rutland development panel votes 5-0 to pursue an RFP after a packing company sought Heights land for cold storage. The Rutland Development and Industrial Commission agreed to let member Mike Sullivan contact Harmony Place and the town's engineering contact to survey roughly six acres at Rutland Heights, land Ryan McKay of Lilac Hedge wants for a new packing-house and cold-storage building serving over 100 employees. McKay wrote the committee he is "in desperate need of a new location for our packing house and additional cold storage." The board also voided minutes from an unposted February 2 joint meeting with the Select Board and revised language saying members were denied a chance to speak there.

Chairman Tim said the committee was similarly shut out before selectmen adopted a shorter charge for RDIC over the board's own 3-0-approved version, telling the panel, "We were denied the opportunity because I asked." Members set a June 1 deadline for Harmony Place to address potential construction-delay penalties and scheduled their next meeting for May 14 at 7 p.m.
