Library board approves director's April report; faces 18% budget cut if override fails

RUTLAND — The Rutland Library Board of Trustees unanimously approved April operational reports and confronted a potential 18 percent budget cut for fiscal 2027. Director Kerry Remington reported strong patronage and programming in April, including a well-attended Easter egg hunt and robust teen advisory board activity. The town faces a $3.1 million deficit driven by rising costs, increased assessments, and reduced state aid; the Select Board is proposing a tiered override to be decided at the May 9 Annual Town Meeting and May 11 ballot.
If voters reject the override, the library will lose 18 percent of its budget, cutting services and hours of operation.
